Step 1: Create a Monthly Spread.

Here's one of my favorite bullet journal monthly spreads!
  • Once you figure out the yearly spreads and start your new bujo, you need to create monthly spreads.
  • If you want an artistic bullet journal, you can choose a theme for each of your monthly spreads. For example, your October monthly spread could be Halloween-themed.
  • Monthly spreads include:-

Idea 1: A Cover Page.

  • A cover page is ideal if you want your bullet journal to be cute. This is a great space to practice your art skills, and make sure you do some art every month!
  • A cover page can include the name of the month and a quote.
  • You can practice your calligraphy and explore various fonts while writing the quotes.
  • You can customize it according to your art style.
  • Utilize the two side-by-side pages to draw a beautiful painting using any medium related to the monthly theme. Add the name of the month in the center of the piece.
  • You can use mediums such as watercolor, colored pencil, marker, or even stick your digital art.
  • But, if you prefer something more simple and mindless, draw bullet journal doodles. If your monthly theme is space, doodle planets, stars, and aliens, or if the theme is Halloween, doodle some ghosts, cauldrons, cobwebs, and candy. (Follow my socials to get bullet journal doodle ideas. Also, blog on bullet journal doodle ideas coming soon!)
  • Another option is to use bullet journal stickers. You can buy plenty of sticker sets on platforms like Amazon and Etsy.
  • Print your bullet journal stickers.
  • DIY your bullet journal stickers.
  • Use washi tape.
  • To summarize, there are plenty of ways to design a monthly cover. Just explore your creative horizons.
  • Most importantly, if your bullet journal is minimalistic and your goal is to save time, it might be best to avoid the cover page altogether.

Idea 2: Create a Monthly Calendar.

To begin with, you need to decide what type of bullet journal you would like to use. There are two main styles: traditional and modern. Traditional bullet journals tend to be more organized than modern ones. They often feature monthly calendars, weekly planners, and other tools that help you stay organized. Modern bullet journals tend to focus more on creativity and less on the organization. You can find templates online or make one yourself.

Either way, a monthly calendar is a great option.

  • It is just what it sounds like. You create a calendar layout on your journal page and jolt down 3-5 tasks to do on each day of the month.
  • Your monthly calendar includes the most important events of the month and the main activities you want to complete.
  • Again, you can customize however you want and express your artistic talents or stay minimal.
  • Overall, It can be a great way to pre-plan your month and record memorable events.

Idea 3: Habit Tracker For Bullet Journals.

  • I think a habit tracker is one of the most helpful spreads in a bullet journal.
  • It is an easy way to build a routine and track your habits.
  • In a bullet journal habit tracker, you create a mini calendar for each of your habits and mark the ones you do each day.
  • There are various layouts you can use to create your habit tracker. Find the one that works best for you!
  • Here are some new healthy habits to track with your habit tracker:

         + Drinking water.

         + Exercise.

         + Skincare

         + Eat Healthily

+ Work on your blog/novel/ social media (Any project you are working on)

         + Dance/Draw/write/sing

Idea 4: Mood Tracker Bullet Journal

  • A mood tracker tracks your mental health, increases self-awareness, and lets you revisit your daily state of mind.
  • I find it fun to find extreme moods on my mood tracker and find what happened that day from my monthly log.
  • Mood trackers are made in layouts similar to habit trackers.
  • But artistic bullet journals often have doodl-ey mood trackers with color codes or patterns for each emotion.

Idea 5: How Am I?

  • How Am I? page is another spread I use to track my mental health and increase self-awareness.
  • They require less commitment than mood trackers and are done monthly rather than daily.
  • Like me, you can use it as a mood tracker alternative or both simultaneously.
  • Basically, a How Am I? page contains two boxes.
  • One, titled How Am I on the 1st: and the other, titled How Am I on the 31st/30th:
  • Then, you fill the boxes with your thoughts and emotions on the first and last days of the month.

Tips Before Starting Your New Bullet Journal.

1. Write Down Your Goals.

Once you decide on a style, you should start by writing down your goals. This will help you figure out how much space you need to fill up each day. If you use a traditional bullet journal, you might want to write down your goals in a monthly calendar. But, if you work on a modern bullet journal, you can write them down in a notebook.

2. Be Flexible

  • Creating a bullet journal routine can be overwhelming. Especially if you are a beginner.
  • But remember, bullet journaling is not an obligation. It is a safe space to jolt your plans.
  • Your monthly spreads do not need to always have the same pages and templates.
  • In other words, do not shy away from changing your styles and patterns according to your comfort.
  • Your spreads might be artistic in one month and minimalistic in the other. Your bujo could contain weekly spreads in one month and have only a monthly calendar in the other. It is okay to be inconsistent with your layouts.
  • Throughout my two-year bullet journalling, I have changed my layouts several times. Nowadays, I even have a different layout each month.
