Tips for Teens
Friendship

As teenagers, we rely on our friends a LOT, even if we don’t want to. But friendships can become complicated. Being left out, recognizing toxic friends, having trouble making new friends, and drifting apart from old friends. There are a lot of complications that come with friendship.

Today, I’ll give you some advice on three things:

1. What Does A Good Friend Looks Like?

  • A good friend is always there to help.
  • They give good advice.
  • They are good listeners.
  • They know how to cheer you up.
  • And of course, they should be honest.
  • They make you feel special and appreciated.
  • Sometimes, they send you memes. They want to share their joy with you. A friendship is good if you laugh together a lot.
  • Most importantly, they stay in touch.

These are not just signs you can use to recognize good friends. These are also things you can do to BE a good friend.

2. Signs You’re Dealing With A Toxic Friend.

  • A toxic friend creates drama.
  • They never listen to your problems. They talk about themselves or gossip about others.
  • They feed into negativity.
  • They make you feel insecure. It doesn’t matter how. If a friend makes you feel insecure, you should get away.
  • A sure sign of a toxic friend is if they gossip about your mutual friends.

There are a lot of reasons we stay in toxic friendships. The most common is because we don’t recognize it. But it also can be because you don’t have other friends and don’t want to be alone. Or because you have mutual friends and don’t want to risk losing them.

Now, you can recognize toxic friends better. And if you don’t have other friends, my next advice will be of great help.

3. How To Make Friends?

  • Try a new club or hobby to meet new people.
  • But if that’s too out of your comfort zone, keep an open mind. You might get along well with people you think are different than you.
  • Just try to be yourself, not what you think they’ll like.
  • Ask them questions about themselves instead of small talk. People LOVE talking about themselves.
  • Finally, be patient! You’ll meet the right person eventually.

Insecurity

When you are a teenager, you’ll be insecure about many things. Your acne, your body, your fashion. And ugggh! The list is endless.

But let me tell you a secret. ✨Nobody cares.✨Everyone is too busy worrying about their insecurities to notice your flaws. We are all in the same storm, just on different boats.

But still, here are some words of reassurance to help you:

  • If you are insecure about your skin, remember:
  1. Skin is never perfect, and that’s ok.
  2. Your complexion doesn’t have to be perfect for it to be glowing.
  3. Acne is normal. It’ll go away when you grow up.
  4. Instagram or Snapchat filters don’t show what skin really looks like. Be careful when you compare.
  5. If you feel good with makeup on, wear it. It’s fine. (But don’t use it excessively to the point where it damages your skin.)
  6. Most importantly, your worth doesn’t come from the flawlessness of your skin. People change all the time. A lot of people get glow-ups after their teen years. But what remains is your personality.
